Supported Independent Living in the Illawarra

A place of your own shouldn’t feel out of reach. Supported Independent Living, or SIL, brings practical, everyday help, cooking, cleaning, personal care, routine, and the slow build of confidence, into your home life. Across the Illawarra, we help you live with genuine independence, while keeping someone within reach whenever you actually need them.

We’re BB Disability & Mental Health Services, a registered NDIS provider based in Dapto, with a team whose roots are in disability support, mental health, and social work. We’re active across Wollongong, Dapto, Kiama, and the broader Illawarra region.

A shared home, a move out of the family house, extra support around you, any one of these can feel enormous from the outside. We take the time to talk it through properly, explain what your choices actually look like, and let you move at whatever speed feels right.

What Might a Week With SIL Support Actually Feel Like?

A Look at What a Week Might Involve

Every day looks a little different for everyone, so support shouldn’t either. Some weeks it’s a couple of gentle hours of help, other weeks it’s daily visits, and for some, someone’s there around the clock, all shaped by your plan and what genuinely helps you.

A Look at What a Week Might Involve

  • Mornings: Starting the day with a friendly hand nearby, personal care, a medication reminder if that’s part of your plan, and a warm breakfast, together or your own way.
  • Weekdays: Meals sorted, groceries done, the house feeling fresh, and little skills growing along the way, budgeting, planning meals, or feeling that bit more confident catching the bus.
  • Evenings: Dinner coming together, a soft wind-down, a chat about how the day went, and getting set for tomorrow.
  • Weekends: A slower, sweeter pace, room for family, hobbies, community, or whatever brings a smile that particular week.

At its heart, SIL is simply about having genuine support close by as your confidence quietly grows. We’ll walk you through what’s possible under your plan, in words that make sense, no paperwork stress. Whenever you feel ready, say hello or make a referral and we’ll take it from there together.

What Makes People Across the Illawarra Choose Us?

  • We’re properly local, not a call centre somewhere else, and we know the Illawarra and its communities well
  • Enquiries get a response within 2 working hours on any weekday, never left sitting
  • Mental health support isn’t separate from the rest, it’s built into everything we offer
  • We work alongside people living with physical, intellectual, and psychosocial disabilities
  • Feeling comfortable, respected, and genuinely at home matters more to us than ticking boxes
  • You’re always in charge, we ask, we listen, and we shift as things change for you
  • We’re fully registered with the NDIS and hold ourselves to the NDIS Practice Standards

Independence was never about doing it all on your own. It’s about the right people around you, the right amount of support, and a home life that actually feels good to live.

What Happens Once You Take That
First Step?

Say hello, whenever suits you

No need for the perfect words or a plan fully worked out. Call 1300 070 724 or send us an email, and we’ll take it from there together, gently.

Tell us what home looks like for you

We’ll talk through where you’re living now, what support you need day to day, what more independence would actually look like for you, and what matters most in a home.

Let’s look at what could suit you best

If SIL feels like the right fit, we’ll walk through the next steps and talk through living arrangements that work for you. If something else fits better, we’ll help you understand that too.
Take it at your own pace, take whatever time you need to reach out or make a referral.

What Other Ways Can We Support You
Across the Illawarra?

We support SIL participants across Wollongong, Dapto, and Kiama. Staying close to family, keeping your community connections, or finding a living setup that gives you more independence, whatever matters to you, we’re happy to talk it through.

Beyond SIL, we also offer Specialist Disability Accommodation, In-Home Support, Community Access and Activities, Support Coordination, and Psychosocial Recovery Coaching. Needs shift over time, so it’s always worth asking what else could fit your plan.

What Our Families Say

Every story here comes from someone we’ve been honoured to support. Choosing a new home or a new provider is a deeply personal decision, and that trust is something we hold carefully.

Gently Ask Us
Participant using mobility support outdoors
People wanting more independence, with regular help needed for cooking, cleaning, personal care, or daily-living skills. It often suits those moving out of the family home or sharing with housemates.
Not necessarily. Some people share with housemates, others have support built around a different arrangement. It depends on your needs and your NDIS plan.
Yes, where a suitable home is available. Seeing the space and asking questions matters, we’d rather you feel sure than rushed.
It depends on your support needs and your NDIS plan. We can walk you through it and help you prepare for a conversation with your Support Coordinator or planner.
That’s fine, it doesn’t suit everyone. In-Home Support or Community Access might fit better instead, we’ll help you find what works.
