Sometimes a short stay away from home gives you the space, support, and comfort you need. Short-Term Accommodation, often called STA or respite, and Medium-Term Accommodation, known as MTA, offer a safe place to stay, whether you need a break, you’re going through a change, or you’re waiting on your next home. In Kiama, we help you explore accommodation support that genuinely fits your situation.
We’re BB Disability & Mental Health Services, a registered NDIS provider based in Dapto, with a team bringing real experience in disability support, mental health, and social work. STA and MTA are available to participants in Kiama, across the Illawarra, and throughout the Shoalhaven.
Maybe you’re planning a short break from your usual routine, looking for time away while your family or carers rest, or trying to find somewhere comfortable while you wait on a longer-term housing option. Whatever the reason, we take the time to understand what you need and explain the options clearly.
A Different Kind of Stay

A stay away from home can be a chance to rest, build confidence, and enjoy a different routine, with support there whenever you need it. The right stay should feel safe, welcoming, and suited to you.
What This Actually Involves
- When you arrive: Getting familiar with your space, meeting the team, and taking time to settle in without feeling rushed.
- Through the day: Personal care, meals, medication reminders where appropriate, appointments, shopping, and the routines that help you feel comfortable.
- Time to enjoy Kiama: Getting out into the community, hobbies, seeing people close to you, or a quieter day when that’s what you need.
- When you’re ready to leave: Talking through what comes next, heading home with support in place, or preparing for another housing option.
STA and MTA can be funded through your NDIS plan, depending on your support needs, goals, and current circumstances. We’ll help you understand the difference and talk through what’s genuinely possible, without making it feel confusing. When you’re ready, say hello or make a referral and we’ll begin together.
Where Our Support Actually Reaches
We support Short-Term and Medium-Term Accommodation participants in Kiama and right across the surrounding Illawarra. Staying near family, familiar surroundings, and the community you already know can shape how a stay away from home actually feels.
Alongside STA and MTA, we also offer Supported Independent Living, Specialist Disability Accommodation, In-Home Support, Community Access and Activities, Support Coordination, and Psychosocial Recovery Coaching. A temporary stay is often one piece of a bigger picture, and we’re glad to help you see what else might ease that transition.

And That Reach Goes Well Beyond Kiama
Not sure what’s nearest to you? We also run STA and MTA in Wollongong, Dapto, Nowra, Moss Vale, and across the wider Illawarra, or call 1300 070 724 and we’ll help point you in the right direction.

What Our Families Say
Arranging time away from home can bring a mix of feelings all at once, relief, uncertainty, hope. We’re genuinely grateful whenever people trust us to be part of that journey.
